2nd Grade Math: What Are 10 Frames Plus Addition?
In second grade, students learn the basic concepts of addition, and one of the methods used to teach this is through the use of 10 frames. A 10 frame is a rectangular box divided into 10 smaller squares, and each square can be filled in with a counter or a number to represent a quantity.
By using 10 frames, students can visually see how numbers can be combined to form a new quantity. For example, if a 10 frame is completely filled with counters, it represents the number 10. If another 2 counters are added, the students can see that the new quantity is 12.
This helps students build a strong foundation in basic math skills, which can be applied to more complex mathematical concepts as they progress through their education.
