First Grade Math: Learn About Cool 3D Shapes
Learning about 3D shapes is an exciting part of math for first graders. 3D shapes are called "solid shapes" because they have length, width, and height. Some examples of 3D shapes include sphere, cube, pyramid, cone, and cylinder.
A sphere is a 3D shape that looks like a ball. A cube is a 3D shape that looks like a box. A pyramid is a 3D shape with a base and triangular faces that meet at a point. A cone is a 3D shape with a circular base and a pointed top. Lastly, a cylinder is a 3D shape with a curved top and bottom and two flat, circular sides.
Encourage your child to identify these shapes in their environment and ask them to describe the shape's properties such as the number of faces, edges, and vertices.
I hope this helps your child in learning about 3D shapes!
